Yesterday, Sydney based developer and publisher Nnooo released Cubemen 2 on the Wii U. Cubemen 2 is the first game on the Nintendo platform which allows cross-platform multiplayer and user generated content. For those who haven’t played the original, Cubemen 2 is a strategy, competitive multiplayer game where players will control an army of Cubemen while trying to defeat rivals in various game modes. And for the first time, players on the Wii U version will be able to battle against other players who own the game either on the Wii U, PC, Linux, Mac, or iOS devices.

“Cubemen 2 is not just a fantastic game, it’s breaking new ground for an indie game on a Nintendo console,” said Nic Watt, Creative Director at Nnooo. “We already know Nintendo players love to create and share amazing artwork and creations in Miiverse. Now they can create levels, share them and battle with other players across multiple platforms! This is great, not only for Nintendo gamers, but for gaming in general.”

Developed by 3 Sprockets, Cubemen 2 can be played in single player against AI or online in six player matches. If there are not enough matches, AI will fill the empty slots. The game ships with seven modes, of which five can be played online in either team based or individual modes. The game comes with a level editor where players will be able to craft their own levels and share with others, regardless of which platform they’ve been created on. 3 Sprockets estimates there are currently over 8,000 user created levels. Players will also be able to access level themes, skins, and a global leaderboard.

“It’s been fantastic working with Nic and Bruce at Nnooo and Nintendo to get Cubemen 2 ported over to Wii U,” said Seon Rozenblum, Director at 3 Sprockets. “It’s such a great console to develop for and it’s a blast to see Cubemen 2 up and running on the TV. The mix of touch and Wii U GamePad controls is a perfect fit for the fast multiplayer gameplay. This has also been our first experience working with a publisher and the guys at Nnooo have been awesome to work with, allowing us to focus on the development side with total confidence that everything else was being taken care of for us.”

Nnooo also achieved a milestone with Cubemen 2 as it is their first published game. “Publishing is a whole new area for us,” according to Bruce Thomson, Nnooo’s Business & Marketing Director. “We’ve gained a huge amount of experience in the console space since Nnooo started in 2006 and we want to use that experience to introduce other talented developers to consoles. We’re delighted to work with 3 Sprockets to bring Cubemen 2 to Wii U”.

Cubemen 2 is currently available on the Nintendo eShop for $7.99.
